Multipactor Threshold Estimation Techniques Based on Circuit Models, Electromagnetic Fields, and Particle Simulators

Multipactor has become a keylimiting factor of the final performance satellite communication systems, due to increase in power levels and/or operating frequency bands. As result, critical components these systems must meet demanding multipactor specifications which should be considered during design process. This paper describes different techniques available predict threshold for radio (RF) and microwave passive hardware under continuous wave (CW) excitation, from cumbersome particle simulations fast approximate methods based on circuit models. All have been described compared together first time, including also detailed description configuration issues commercial simulators required obtain accurate predictions. The are applied both wideband narrowband application examples. predictions with measured thresholds manufactured samples obtained novel test bed, thus allowing highlight advantages limitations each technique simulator. From this paper, it will possible choose most suitable procedure (and an appropriate simulator, if needed) prediction hardware.
